Monthly Meeting
Meeting via Dennis’ Zoom account. (Thanks Dennis!)
Meeting called to order by President Mike May (KF4FMQ) at 1931 hours.
Attendees: 12 members;
Doug Collins (KA4SWT), Ken Douglass (KY4KD), Dennis Weiskircher (K3KZU), Mike May

Previous meeting was 25 January 2022. Motion to accept Minutes of that meeting as published (via
email) by Dennis (K3KZU), 2nd by Bill (W9WA). Passed by acclimation.

Treasurer’s Report:

Past Activities Report:
• TALARC D-STAR: Monday, 7 February 2022. There were 46 total check-ins including Net
Control from 15 different states. The net began at 2000 hours ET with Ken (KY4KD) acting as Net
Control. Ken (KY4KD) conducted the net from his home QTH. The Legion announcements were
read by Gene KO4IVI. The “Veterans After Net” was conducted by Gene (KO4IVI) as well.
• CQ WPX RTTY Contest on 12 February 2022.
• Monthly coffee via Zoom: Friday, 7 January 2022, 0900 hours.

Old Business
o Secretary: No nominations -> still open
o TALARC D-STAR: Monday, 7 February 2022 at 2000 hours.
o Monthly Coffee via Zoom Friday, 4 February 2022, 0900 hours.
o Next Monthly meeting: Tuesday, 22 February 2022 at 1930 hours, open forum at 1900.
Doug (KA4SWT) and Chris (KG4UQL) recommended replacing the repeater antenna with a new Diamond
F22A antenna. The existing antenna is functional but should have improved performance and reliability
with the recommended replacement. A motion to purchase the antenna was made by Dennis (K3KZU),
seconded by Bill (W9WA) and passed without further discussion.

Peter recommended an activity for February. There are multiple contests scheduled for 12 February

  1. Peter (KJ4ND) will send out a zoom notice.
    Andy asked about the possibility of activating a tone squelch on the repeater transmitter. This would
    help with some QRM he and others are hearing on the repeater’s frequency.
    Chris (KG4UQL) asked about having hybrid in person/Zoom club meetings in the future. Mike said that Harold had told him that he thought that he had the things necessary to make that work. Mike will contact Harold and find out what he found out.

    New Business
    o TALARC D-STAR: Monday, 7 March 2022 at 2000 hours. Check-ins over the air on D-Star
    reflector 56C or via Echo Link. Early check-ins start 45 minutes before the Net, i.e. from
    1915 on. Remember you can check in via EchoLink from your computer or smartphone
    to either node KY4RW-L or use EchoLink’s search mode on “Danville”. Club members
    only: Ken will check you in if you send a text to his cell phone during the net.
    o The new Diamond F22A antenna has been purchased for the repeater. It is at Mike’s
    house for now until weather improves for installation.
    o Per Andy’s (KI6SEP) request in the last meeting, Doug (KA4SWT) has added a 100 Hz.
    tone squelch to the 2M repeater output.
    o Mike (KF4FMQ) has not contacted Harold about setting up a hybrid meeting.
    o Election of new Club Secretary. Rick (KO4UHE) was nominated by David (AE4YM), 2nd by
    Peter (KJ4ND). Dennis (K3KZU) proposed that nominations be closed, 2nd by Larry
    (WE4LR) and closure passed by acclamation. Having a quorum present, the election of
    the new Club Secretary was then passed by acclamation.
    o Group.io unsubscribe discussion and new member discussion.

    • Future Activities:
    o Peter (KJ4ND) proposed a club activity on Saturday, 26 March 2022.
    o Next club Coffee Social on Friday, 4 March 2022 (1st Friday of month) at 0900 hours via
    ZOOM.
    o Next monthly meeting is on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 (4th Tuesday of month) at 2000
    hours via ZOOM.

16 states and 1 Canadian Provence. The net began at 8:00 PM ET with Ken (KY4KD) acting as
Net Control. Ken (KY4KD) conducted the net from his home QTH. The Legion announcements
were read by Gene KO4IVI. The “Veterans After Net” was conducted by Gene KO4IVI as well.
 VE Session on 1/22/2022, 8 were tested all passed their tests.

 Update on repeater issues during recent weekly check-in, investigated by Doug:
o Technical problem: Doug inspected the repeater and did not find anything wrong.
 Last week was fine.
 Two weeks ago had a few issues.
 Three weeks ago we had to go simplex. Bill: at its worst, repeater would kick in
when somebody started to speak and then dropped out almost immediately
(after a word or even a syllable); Dennis: picket fencing. Mike: The repeater
IDer worked fine and was clean even when the problems were occurring.
o Procedural problem: access to property successful as lock was unchanged. Access to
building was not successful due to lock being changed. This problem now resolved &
building can be accessed.
 New Emergency Manager for Boyle County, Brian Caldwell. Has spoken with Chris who relayed
this to Mike.
 Next Monthly meeting: Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 1930, open forum at 1900.

• $35 SERA repeater annual renewal (Expense)
• $60 Two renewals under Hardship Membership (Expense)
• $30 One renewal under Youth Membership (Expense)

Past Activities Report:
• TALARC D-STAR: Monday, December 6. There were 42 total check-ins including Net Control from
20 states and 1 Canadian Provence. The net began at 8:00 PM ET with Ken (KY4KD) acting as
Net Control. Ken (KY4KD) conducted the net from his home QTH. The Legion announcements
were read by Gene KO4IVI. The “Veterans After Net” was conducted by Gene KO4IVI as well.
The MD Post 275 Special Event station was also announced. (see Appendix for details) The
American Legion hosts around 30 nets. This one has the most check-ins by a big margin.
• Monthly coffee via Zoom: Friday, December 3, 9 A.M.
• No other Club activities were planned for December due to holidays.

Old Business:
• Club dues for 2022 continue to be accepted. In last month, 3 people have renewed and 5
members have not responded to renewal or contact efforts.
o Full Legion members are $30 and can be paid online with a credit card www.legion.org
and click on “Renew”.
o Sons of the American Legion are $20 and can be paid by check.
o Legion Associate Members are $30 and can be paid by check.
